Hugely popular block-building game Minecraft could soon be turned into a film.

Minecraft creator Markus Persson revealed this week that the game’s maker was talking to Warner Brothers about the project.

Mr Persson said he revealed the news to thwart someone else who was trying to leak information about the deal.

Movie news site Deadline reported that one of the producers for the Lego Movie is in charge of the project.

Deadline reported that Warner planned to make a “live-action” movie of the game.

The film is still in its early stages, as Warner has just acquired the rights for Minecraft’s iconic characters, blocks, and monsters.

This news comes less that two weeks after Mojang (the Minecraft creator) shut down a Kickstarter initiative to raise funds in order to make a movie based on the game.

Hollywood has a poor record in adapting best-selling video games to film. WORST LIES Many projects fail to get past the planning stage.

A movie about the science-fictional Halo universe is in production for nine years. Filming has not started despite numerous scripts being written.

Similar films based upon Bioshock, Gears of War, and Metal Gear Solid Work are all being discussed but have yet to be shot.

World of Warcraft is the game being made into film. Filming began in late January with British director Duncan Jones. The film will be released early in 2016.
